Calamus has a herbaceous, spicy, and clove-like aroma great for natural perfume artisans. It is commonly used in cosmetics, perfumes, and leathery/woody scents. Due to the presence of beta-asarone (a carcinogen), caution should be used with this oil and should not be used in aromatherapy.
